Experience and Qualifications:
Mr. Boyd was hired by ESP as a network designer in 2000 and is currently serving as the Director of Design Services. Over the past several years, he has been responsible for facilities planning, information technology (IT) planning and communications infrastructure design for over twenty (20) major school renovation or new construction projects. His responsibilities included working with the client and architect on classroom layouts, detailed design of telecommunications rooms, and the placement of communication network outlets (CNOs). Included in his scope of work for these schools were voice, data and video distribution, as well as the head end facilities for these systems.
Facilities and Learning Space Design: Mr. Boyd is working with several school districts and architects to implement a technology design and classroom layout that best utilizes the advance of fiber optic technology to the classroom. He demonstrates an ability to innovate so that current educational trends are complimented by the technology in the classroom. Mr. Boyd’s responsibilities include design of CAD labs, design engineering technology labs, science labs, and media communications and imaging labs.
Infrastructure Design: Mr. Boyd has received his Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certification from BICSI, as of March, 2002. As a certified designer, he provides an expertise in the design phase that profits his clients in the design and construction phase and throughout the life of the building. This certification also helps to guarantee a professional approach to coordination with all other design team members.
Digital Harbor High School: (formerly Southern High School), Baltimore, MD: This project is a comprehensive, phased renovation and conversion of the 303,963 s.f. High school into a district-wide technology magnet school and career-preparatory educational facility focused on study of computer media communication technologies. His project responsibility included design and layout of innovative classrooms, computer, CAD, technology and media communications labs.
Woodson High School: Washington, D.C.: Mr. Boyd is working on the design for a complete telecommunications distribution system for this 215,000 s.f. High School. This phased replacement/renovation project includes the current building being demolished, except for the auditorium and gymnasium. Mr. Boyd is working on the design development phase for the new replacement High school. This work includes location, design and specification of telecommunications rooms as well as design of technology related learning spaces including the media center and educational technology labs.
New Jersey School Projects: Currently, Mr. Boyd is working on the design of new and renovated schools in New Jersey. He has written the District Technology Infrastructure Plan used as a benchmark for integrating technology into the design of schools in five school districts. Mr. Boyd coordinates work with the architect, project managers and school districts. He coordinates the E-Rate process to ensure that eligible school districts are able to obtain Internal Connection funding for telecommunication infrastructure. Mr. Boyd coordinates and oversees the work of all projects assigned to the team of staff of designers assigned to each project.
