  Facilities Master Planning

Educational Systems Planning has a three-fold involvement as a member of Facilities Master Planning teams.

Technology Infrastructure Master Plan (TIMP)

This effort involves reviewing the District’s technology plan, IT technology standards, educational program and plans for school technology utilization. This is accomplished through meetings (charettes, focus groups, etc.) with appropriate computer, media resources, educational specialists and other IT related personnel to understand the District’s educational direction and desired integration of technology. The product of this effort is a document that clearly outlines the requirements for technology within the District, minimum acceptance criteria for technology utilization in facilities, and direction for future implementation or upgrades of technology, to include:

          - Structured cabling system
          - Local area networks
          - Telephone and intercom systems
          - Classroom technology equipment
          - Computer labs to support curriculum
          - Technology support to media centers, science labs, and other
             technology spaces
          - Video distribution and presentation systems
          - Auxiliary sound and sound enhancement systems
          - Building security systems
          - Distance learning systems

Facility Technology Assessment

ESP next conducts site visits of all schools and records data concerning present technology systems and utilization.  The site walk-through is normally conducted in conjunction with the A&E team to facilitate coordination with other assessment engineers.  Comparing the data against the TIMP, ESP then produces reports that detail encountered systems, recommendations as to educational adequacy of the systems in place, deficiencies if ideal systems are not currently in place or being utilized, and compatibility with desired future systems.  Each school-specific report includes cost estimates necessary to bring the technology up to the defined standards.

Facilities Master Plan Development

ESP's staff then participates in the development of the Facilities Utilization Master Plan. Staff members with expertise in networking, security, telephone and video systems contribute to the generation and evaluation of school configuration solution options concerning new and renovated schools, versus systemic upgrade alternatives associated with the master planning effort.
